Ulthera™ World’s First Non-Invasive Focused Ultrasound Facelift

Ulthera™ World’s First Non-Invasive Focused Ultrasound Facelift

Non-invasive aesthetic treatments have been inundated with lasers, fillers and Botox—all still excellent for skin rejuvenation. And there’s always been surgery. Now there’s Ultherapy™—a novel non-invasive way to turn the effects of time and gravity back—by tightening and lifting deep skin tissue.

The beauty of Ultherapy is that it is a 30-minute procedure that uses the body’s own healing response to gently, gradually, safely —and reliably—restore memory to the skin and its underlying tissue. In a clinical study at Northwestern University, physician evaluators noted significant lifting of the brow line. Often, what appeared to be excess skin on the upper lids was actually hooding that was caused by a drooping brow. By simply raising the brow, patients reported a more “open” eye, and a more rested, refreshed look overall. They reported firmer, more toned skin in other areas as well.

There isn’t a replacement for the dramatic effects of surgery, but finally there is a non-invasive approach to significant deep tissue tightening.

What is Ultherapy™?

Ultherapy™ is a new type of non-invasive procedure that uses medical ultrasound for cosmetic improvement of the skin. Ultherapy works deep below the surface – without harming the outer layer of the skin – for firming, tightening and lifting. Improvements around the eyes include lifting of the brow line for less hooding on the eyelids, smoothing of crow’s feet, and a more open, refreshed look to the eyes in general. Sagging skin on the cheeks can be tightened and lifted, which in turn can improve folds from the nose to mouth, folds from the mouth to jaw, and drooping corners of the mouth. A more defined jaw line and overall improvements in skin texture and evenness of color can be additional benefits.

How does it work?

The smooth Ulthera ultrasound applicator is placed on your face. This allows one to actually see into your skin and the tissue beneath. This same handpiece is then used to deliver low levels of heat energy at just the right depth below the skin to achieve a positive effect, leaving the surface of your skin unharmed.

Your skin’s response to the energy is to contract slightly right away, and then to stimulate the growth of new collagen over time. A gradual tightening occurs, ultimately resulting in a natural, beneficial lift of facial skin tissue.

How is this procedure different than other non-invasive skin tightening procedures?

Ultherapy is the only skin rejuvenation procedure that uses ultrasound to image and treat the skin. The ability to utilize an established technology to both see below the skin and then treat it with great precision, helps ensure both safety and satisfying results.

What kind of results can one expect?

The regenerative process is initiated right away, but the full effect will build gradually over the course of two to three months. In the FDA clinical trial, nine out of ten patients had a noticeable, significant lift of the brow line, resulting in a more open, refreshed appearance overall. Patients reported firmer, tighter, more fit-looking skin in other areas of the face and neck as well.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted clearance for the use of the Ulthera™ System to achieve a non-invasive eyebrow lift.

Is there any downtime to the treatment?

You are able to return to your normal activities immediately and there are no special measures you need to take.

Your skin may appear slightly pink or puffy immediately after the treatment, but any redness should disappear in a matter of hours.

Is Ultherapy safe?

Ultrasound energy has been used in medical imaging and therapeutics, such as sonograms, for over 50 years, and clinical studies have confirmed the safety of this latest application. As with any medical procedure there are general safety considerations, which Dr Colin Tham will review with you.

About the Ulthera™ System

  • The Ulthera System is used to administer focused ultrasound energy non-invasively for lifting and tightening lax skin and its underlying supportive connective tissue. Current treatments address the forehead, mid-face and/or lower face and neck laxity, with most procedures taking no more than 30 minutes. The Ulthera System, combining both ultrasound imaging and ultrasonic thermal energy therapy, is in a class of its own—there is no precedent for it in the aesthetics industry.

    • It is the first ultrasound device cleared for a facial aesthetic medical application.

    • Ulthera’s DeepSEE™ technology allows one to see skin tissue and treat to a desired depth below the surface while not affecting intervening tissue.

      • Ultrasound imaging displays precise tissue layers that are targeted for treatment.

      • Ultrasound therapy focuses treatment at clinically relevant depths, with a concentration of energy that enables significant lifting and tightening of lax skin.

    • The Ulthera System is unique as evidenced by the fact that it underwent a “de novo” review by the FDA, not a traditional 510(k) review. A “de novo” review indicates that no currently marketed device was deemed substantially similar.

  • Ulthera’s novel DeepSEE™ technology draws on the same reliable ultrasound imaging principles that physicians and their patients have trusted for decades.

How the DeepSEE™ Technology Works

  • Clinicians first visualize the tissue deep beneath the skin’s surface to see the precise planes where they will be delivering ultrasound energy.

  • Ultrasound energy is delivered deep below the skin’s surface in a non-invasive way. The nature of “focused” ultrasound is that acoustic energy is benign except at the focal point where sound waves come together. Therefore, superficial layers of skin are not affected and the deeper targeted plane gets a concentrated dose of energy.

  • Thermal coagulation points created by energy deposition initiate the body’s natural healing response, resulting in new and improved collagen support and a gradual lifting, tightening and firming of skin over time.

  • A variety of multi-patient disposable transducers are available, enabling the delivery of energy at different frequencies and different depths depending on the specific area to be treated.

About the Ultherapy™ Treatment

  • Ultherapy is a non-invasive procedure offered by aesthetic & plastic surgery practices.

  • Clinical studies have revealed consistent, significant lifting of eyebrows, leading to less sagging on the lids and a more refreshed look, as well as lifting, tightening, and firming of skin tissue in the lower face and neck.

  • An Ultherapy full face treatment or lower face and neck treatment takes about 30 minutes.

  • Patients have experienced no downtime related to the procedure; however, there may be slight blushing or redness for up to 2 hours following treatment. About 10% of patients treated have slight bruising, which resolves within thirty days following treatment.

  • Lifting and tightening occur gradually over the weeks and even months that follow treatment as new collagen is produced.

  • The creation of new Ultherapy-induced collagen inherently enhances the vitality of the skin.

Hair Aesthetics

Medical Hair Restoration

Frequently Asked Questions

Medical hair restoration (MHR) -is it right for you?

Anyone who is experiencing permanent hair loss would benefit from MHR.

These include:

-Men with male pattern baldness

-Women with female pattern baldness

-Individuals who’d like to restore or change the shape of their hairline

-Individuals who want to thicken or restore eyebrows

-Individuals who want hair in an area where they have little or no hair

Why choose MHR over treatments available in the market now?

Majority of non-medical services available in the market now are based on non-scientific herbal remedies. Frequently, these treatments are time-consuming, often leading to huge financial investment and disappointing results.

At HairAesthetics, the root of the problem, is curbed through clinically proven (topical and oral) medications, which help by slowing down the formation of the hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), that causes male and female pattern baldness.

Finally, Surgical Hair Restoration or Hair Transplants is still the only effective way of permanently restoring hair. Since the hair follicles that are transplanted to the balding areas are genetically resistant to going bald, they will continue to grow for a life time, just as if they had been left in the original donor area.

How does Hair Transplants work?

Despite common belief, natural hair follicles do not grow in singular hair follicular units. They grow in hair follicular units of 1, 2, and 3 hair follicles.

Mimicking nature, our highly skilled doctors and nurses, would redistribute bald-resistant 1, 2, and 3 hair follicular unit grafts (donor hair), to the bald spots (recipient area).

Is there any downtime?

Most patients feel fine within a day or two following surgery, although some numbness and mild soreness can be expected for several days following surgery.

When will my transplanted hair follicular units start to grow?

It takes normally between 4 to 6 months, following surgery before the transplanted hair follicles begin to grow new hair. The transplanted hair grows in very thin initially and gradually grows thicker and fuller over time. After one year a patient’s transplanted hair will be fully mature and will continue to grow for a life time.

Are the results permanent?

Yes. Since the hair follicles that are transplanted to the balding areas are genetically resistant to going bald, they will continue to grow for a life time – just as if they had been left in the original donor area.

Hair Transplants: Step-by-Step Procedure

  1. On the day of your hair transplant:

    • Recipient area is prepared by numbing it.

    • Donor area is measured and slightly trimmed.

    • Donor material is removed.

    • Donor area is closed with stitches.

  1. Hair is combed over the donor area. Once healed, the donor area is almost unnoticeable, leaving no significant bald area.

  1. Donor material is split to form individual follicular grafts made up of 1 to 3 hair follicles.

  1. These grafts are then meticulously placed at the correct angle, direction and pattern of your original hair. Each graft is carefully placed to allow enough
